Join Martine in this Contact Improvisation dance workshop, a dance form based on the communication between two moving bodies and their combined relationship in motion.
Come and spend the afternoon with Martine Fox as she introduces you to Contact Improvisation dance.
Contact Improvisation dance form "is based on the communication between two moving bodies that are in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion—gravity, momentum, inertia.". It was created in 1972 in New York by contemporary dancer Steve Paxton.
This is a beginner's workshop, therefore NO PRIOR DANCE EXPERIENCE is necessary and it is open to all levels of dancers!
You will experience exercises to first ground and awaken your faculties. We'll explore movements such as rolling, sliding, pivotting and pushing. We will end the workshop with a Jam. The jam is a safe space to explore our newfound skills, to listen to our impulses and those of our dance partners and to rediscover the absolute joy of dancing and creating with our bodies.
