Program Overview

Yin Yoga Immersion & teacher training

We welcome anyone who has a desire to explore all aspects of the yin practice (physical poses, meditation, breath and philosophy).

The awareness of your unique body and mind, that you will cultivate from this quiet practice of yin, will inform other yoga practices, forms of exercise and show you how to find your center amongst the busyness of life.

In addition to enhancing your personal connection to yin yoga, this program is open to existing yoga teachers and other wellness professionals.

Join Ara Cusack for the Yin Yoga Immersion program. Ara has the highest level of accreditation with the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500, YACEP) and has studied hatha, flow, yin, restorative, kundalini, prenatal, qi gong, anatomy and meditation.

MODULE 1

22.5 hourS

This module focuses on understanding the foundational concepts of yin and the poses for the lower body.

What is Yin?

• Origins of yin yoga
• How to weave breath and meditation into your yin practice and into your teaching
• Quiet time, learning to listen and the art of non-doing

Breath/Meditation/Energy Body

• Daily practices (breath work, meditation, yoga/qi gong inspired sequences to feel your energetic body)
• Exploring sensation (tension, compression, opening, edges, discomfort)
• Connective tissues (fascia, ligaments) and the yin practice
• Skeletal variation of the lower body

Anatomy

• Understand movements of major joints, bones, muscle groups of the lower body
• Support the body with and without props
• Find your unique shape and guide others into finding theirs

Yin for the lower body

• Key poses of yin for legs (benefits, considerations & cautions, body types, modifications, variations, sequencing)
• Benefits and principles of yin
• Difference between passive and active yoga practices, yin and restorative yoga


MODULE 2

22.5 hours

This module focuses on the poses for the upper body, exploring other types of meditation anchors to use in the yin practice, further exploration of the energetic body and teaching methodology.

Yin for the upper body

• Key poses of yin for the upper body (benefits, considerations & cautions, body types, modifications, variations, sequencing)
• Find your unique shape and guide others into finding theirs• Supporting the body with and without props

Anatomy

• Understand movements of major joints and bones of the spine and shoulder
• Skeletal variation of the upper body

Breath/Meditation/Energy Body

• Daily practices (breath work, meditation, yoga/qi gong inspired sequences to feel your energetic body)
• Western vs. Eastern views of the energy body in our yoga practice• Meridians and the yin practice
• How to weave mudras or mantras into your yin practice and into your teaching

Philosophy

• Intro to Taoism and yin/yang relativity

Teaching Methodology

• Class structure and sequencing for yin or yin fusion classes
• Atmosphere of a yin class – pace, vocabulary, voice, and music
• Teaching and student learning styles
• How to support students with various needs
• Practicum for those interested in teaching


Additional Information

  This program follows the standards outlined by Yoga Alliance for each of the 5 educational categories. A robust manual will be provided for each weekend of the training. To receive your certificate of completion, you will need to complete the graduation requirements (including homework and open book questions). After completing the graduation requirements, you will receive a certificate of completion that counts towards Continuing Education Units with Yoga Alliance. You may teach yin yoga if you are already a 200/300/500 Yoga Alliance certified teacher.

Module 2

Weekend – Weekend – Friday, May 26 to Sunday, May 28
(Friday night 5:30 – 9, Saturday 9:30am – 5:30pm and Sunday 9:00am – 5:30pm)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 3 months practicing yoga.  If you are newer to yoga, contact us at TeacherTraining@MaaYoga.com and let us help you prepare for the training.
